We decided to publish our training philosophy because of its importance. There are so many ways to train a dog that dedicating a page to our approach was deamed appropriate. The advantage we have is that we actively seek out extreme dogs to train. Everyone has an opinion on how to train a dog but most lack experience beyond a few episodes of television or maybe at most a university lecture on behavior. Your mailman, your insurance agent, maybe your veterinarian will offer advice on how to handle behavioral issues. Remember, talk is cheap, let us show you what we can do. Before you follow the advice of anyone (including ourselves) you need to know what experience they have in training dogs. For over twelve years we have been perfecting and improving our training of dogs. Our commitment to ever more efficient and more importantly effective methods is second to none. We refuse to limit ourselves with narrow dogmatic views or ideologies. Our methods are based on scientifically proven ideas that, combined with our "hands on" experience, will make your dog training experience rewarding.
We call a dog that is "checked in" with their handler and has a communcation system a "Sophisticated Dog". In order to train a dog to perform a certain behavior (or not perform a certain behavior, like jumping on people) under any distraction, the dog needs to be "checked in" with the handler. We teach our students how to get their dogs to focus on them regardless of how distracting the environment gets.

Once we get the dog "checked in" we begin to build a communication system with the dog. Each word of our communication system is very methodically taught to the dog. The sophisticated dog will understand when they "got it right" and should perform the behavior again (Example:sit). The dog will also understand when they have done something that should not be done again (Example: nipping or jumping). We will also teach the dog a word that informs it that we like the behavior they are doing and wish it to continue to perform the behavior.
